The Transforming Power Of God’s Word

The Transforming Power Of God’s Word

“It is the Spirit who gives life … the words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:62

Many years ago I was helping to move a great aunt from the house she had just sold to her new home. I was given directions by the person with whom I was working on driving out of the city; “You’ll need to drive over the bridge”. My great aunt became quite anxious, ‘My Dear” she said, “I think you mean drive across the bridge”. I’m sure my great aunt had visions of us driving over the bridge and into the water!

Our words may on occasions be fickle; however, God chooses His words carefully and backs them up with power!

“I am watching over My word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12

“For the word of God is living and active.” Hebrews 4:12

There is no greater creative power than the Word of God. God’s Word brought all things into being and sustains all things (Hebrews 1:3). To experience the Life of God (Zoe) we must have God’s Word abiding in us. There are two main ways the Word of God will transform your life.

Firstly, God’s Word will renew your mind. This is an essential step in learning to live in the Life of God. A renewed mind is needed to be able to discern the will of God for our lives (Romans 12:2). Without a mind that is renewed, we will wander around in our own wilderness not knowing truth from lies and deception from direction.

Secondly, God’s Word is always backed by His enabling power, the power to produce the outcome He has promised. The work of the Holy Spirit within us is to confirm God’s Word. Once we have God’s Word abiding in us, and we act upon His Word, God has promised to bring it to pass.

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." John 15:7
