REDEEMER COAST

STATEMENT OF FAITH

GOD

1 John 1:1
2 Corinthians 13:14

We believe in one God, who is expressed eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son , and the
Holy Spirit; being co-equal and in perfect relationship.

We believe that God created all things that have come into existence, in accordance with the Scriptures.

THE BIBLE

2 Timothy 3:16

We believe the Bible is the Word of God, written by people who were inspired by the Holy Spirit and that through the Bible, God’s redemptive plan and will has been revealed to all people, generations, nations and cultures.

JESUS CHRIST

John 8:58

We believe that Jesus Christ is God revealed in person. We believe that the Bible accurately records Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. We believe that He is the only way by which people can be saved and come to a knowledge of God. We believe that Jesus is the head of the Church and that according to his promise, he will return, triumphant as King of Kings, the Lord of Lords.

HUMANITY

John 3:16

We believe humans are wonderfully created in the likeness and image of God, and because of sin, are born spiritually dead, without a true knowledge and a living relationship with God. However, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was sent to give His life, in our place, for our sin. Jesus said every person must be ‘born again’. A person is ‘born again’ when they come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. This is necessary for every persons's individual salvation, and when experienced, produces eternal life. We believe that those who reject God’s offer of salvation through Jesus Christ are destined to an eternity apart from God. We believe that every person has a life purpose and that this purpose is to worship God, to be active and fruitful in the Church and to reach the world with the Gospel.

BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

Acts 1:8

We believe every believer, subsequent to salvation (being ‘born of the Spirit’), may be ‘filled with’ the Holy Spirit. This is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ to all believers and is received by faith which gives believers power for a supernatural, victorious life. The Bible teaches that this experience is a free gift, received by faith and is evidenced by the accompanying gifts of the Spirit, including speaking in tongues.

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

1 Thessalonians 5:23

We believe that throughout their life, every Christian is to grow more like Christ. This growth is a work of grace by the Holy Spirit, through hearing, believing and acting on God’s Word. We believe that in salvation, provision is made for all of our needs, spirit, soul and body. We believe that health and healing for mental, emotional and physical illness is available by the power of God, through faith.

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Matthew 28:18-20

We believe that Jesus commissioned his church to take the Gospel to all the world. As part of this commission, Jesus gave His Church authority and power through the Holy Spirit. We believe that, as Jesus’ disciples, the Great Commission applies to us and is the necessary and primary purpose of the Church.

+ Redeemer Coast’s Statement On Same Sex Marriage

We believe that all people regardless of gender, race, ethnicity or beliefs have been wonderfully made by God and are equally valued and loved by Him. We believe that Jesus died for the sin of the whole world.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (ESV)

We acknowledge that everyone is searching for the love, value and meaning that has been designed for them, because they have been created in the image of God for the purpose of relationship with Him. (Genesis 1:27)

At Redeemer Coast, we are not against anyone who identifies as LGBT and we empathise with their desire to find meaningful, loving and enduring relationships. We welcome everyone and want them to feel loved and valued at Redeemer Coast.

We regret and apologise for the hurt, hate and condemnation that some members of the Christian church have inflicted on the LGBT community, much of which has been motivated by fear, self-righteousness and a miss-understanding of the Gospel. We ask for forgiveness on their behalf. (Matt 5:23-24)

We don’t believe that it is our place to judge or condemn anyone, especially people who don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. We aim to always communicate the love and life that is found in Jesus. (John 3:18, John 16:9, 1 Corinthians 5:9-12)

We believe that ‘Christian marriage’ is sacred because it was instituted by God as being between a man and a woman, for the purpose of providing a secure foundation for children and to reflect the love that God has for His Church and for His children. (Matt 19: 4-6, Ephesians 5: 22-33)

Jesus answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:4-6

Whatever the situation with same sex marriage in Australia, we will continue to embrace, love, and value our LGBT friends and family. We accept that our beliefs may not be held by others of equally goodwill, nevertheless we are committed to loving and valuing everyone and respecting their right to hold convictions different to ours.
