God Is More Interested in Your Future Than Your Past
The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever.” Genesis 13:14-15 NASB
It is easy to focus on the past; who did what to us, what we did wrong and what we could have done better. The good news of Jesus Christ, is that God does not want our past to define us. He is more concerned about our future.
In 1 Timothy 1:16, Paul said ‘I found mercy, that through His perfect patience I may be an example to all who believe.’ God is well aware of our human failings and those of others. The past is covered by God’s mercy. God is mercy. He overflows with mercy. Applying just a little bit of that mercy to our past will set us free from it.
As we move into 2020, we need to do what God told Abraham to do. We need to look ahead to the good things God has for us. His mercy and grace will abound for us. Look over the year ahead and declare the goodness of God over your life.
This is a good confession to make:
God’s mercy abounds for me.
My past cannot and will not hold me back!
I see His goodness in 2020.
His grace and love will abound to me.
I have provision for all I need.
I have strength for every circumstance.
I have the victory in every trial.
