The New View is the Real You
Acts 10:15-16, “And a voice spoke to him again the second time, 'What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.”
How we see ourselves is how we conduct ourselves. If we see ourselves as sinners, trapped in the cycle of guilt and shame, we will live our lives from that place. But, if we renew our minds to the truth of what God’s grace has done in us, then our actions will change to line up with how we see ourselves.
What God has cleansed, we must not call common. (Acts 10:15) Common means unclean, defiled, or to count as unclean.
By God’s grace, we have been washed, we have been sanctified, we have been justified from our old nature, and now our new nature is pure, holy and righteous! (1 Corinthians 6:11)
Since God calls us clean, who are we to call ourselves unclean? We no longer view ourselves after the flesh, our behaviour, and actions (2 Corinthians 5:16); instead, we see ourselves as God does. We know ourselves according to who Jesus is because as He is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17).
We have a new nature, a cleansed nature, with a clean conscience because of the blood of Jesus. This new view of yourself is the real you. Our nature doesn’t change because we did something wrong or because we didn’t do something right. For example, a person can believe they’re a cat, act like a cat, eat like a cat, and drink like a cat, but just because they believe they’re a cat doesn’t make them a cat; their nature is human. Likewise, a Born Again believer can believe that they’re a sinner who will always act like a sinner, but the truth is, their nature is righteous. Their behaviour does not change their nature of holiness. The acceptance of Jesus as their Lord is the reason why they are righteous.
When we understand how God sees us, it will change the way we see ourselves, and as a result, our behaviour will change to act like who we already are. This is living in the victory! Sin doesn’t have dominion over us! We can do all that God has called us to do because He has qualified us. Our lives are living and walking examples of His grace. Just like the Apostle Paul, when he encountered the grace of God and accepted it in his life, he was able to do all that God called him to do. He was not living in the shadow of his past mistakes, crippled by guilt; instead, he boldly declared, “I am what I am by the grace of God.”
What about you, saint of the Most High God? What’s the truth about who you are in Christ? There’s no time for you to live with the guilt and condemnation that has been trying to keep you down, it's time to cast that down, and bodly decalre that you are the righteousness of God in Christ! That you are holy, justified, sanctified and well able to live out the amazing plan that God has for you!
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
Chloe
