We’re In Him

Philippians 3:9, “and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;”

Jesus came to bring us new life.

A new way of living.

A new identity.

A new way of operating.

We have grown up in a world where our works, our achievements, our skill sets define us. We get rewarded or punished based on our actions.

As a result, people are so used to living a life of trying to earn, trying to achieve, trying to find their identity based on their own work.

However, when we came to Christ, there is a new way of living, a new way of identifying ourselves; and it’s finding ourselves in Jesus. In Him. In Christ.

Paul constantly used these “In Him” terms.

These aren’t just for the apostle Paul to identify with; this terminology is given to us by God through the Holy Spirit to help us to know who we are now that we’re Born Again!

We can no longer take our old pattern of living, which was defined by our achievements and self-effort, a life lived in guilt, condemnation and comparison.

We identify with being in Christ. That means everything Jesus is, we are. His strength is our strength. His peace is our peace. His value is our value. His righteousness is our righteousness. His love is our love. God loves you and I just as much as He loves Jesus! (John 17:23)

We may not always “feel” like this is the truth, but our feelings do not reveal truth; feelings come and go. But the truth of who Jesus is and our place in Him is what we identify with.

When our feelings don’t match what the Bible says about us, we can boldly open our mouths and declare that “as He is, so are we in this world!” (1 John 4:17)

We can boldly declare, according to Ephesians 1:3-4, “God has blessed me with every spiritual blessing. He has chosen me before the foundation of the world that I should be holy and without blame before Him in love.”

We must put these words in our mouths. We speak them over ourselves. We speak these words of truth despite our emotions.

You are in Christ! Choose to identify with who He says you are.

You’re not your emotions.

You’re not your failures.

You’re not your achievements.

You’re not what your parents said about you.

You’re not what your friends say about you.

You’re not a summed-up picture of your past.

You are in Christ! Seated with Him in Heavenly places!

You are complete in Him! (Colossians 2:9-10)

We have our eyes fixed on Him, and as we look on Him, we see who we are. (1 John 3:1-3)
