His Greatest Work

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Oh, the depth and riches of what Jesus did on the cross! Jesus became the final sacrifice for our sins, and His sacrifice not only paid for our sins, but it completely changed our nature. In fact, translated into Greek, the words “new creation” mean that we are a completely new species, one that never existed before!

What God did in us as new creations, through Jesus, is the greatest work of God! Who we are in Him, our born-again spirit, looks just like Jesus. Everything He is, we are in Him. His righteousness is our righteousness, His holiness is our holiness, His sufficiency is our sufficiency.

So often, people think they are still trying to be holy, still trying to be righteous; they look at their behaviour, their actions, and think, “I am so far away from looking like Jesus; I’ll never be good enough.”

Believing we are still trying to “become like Him” means we are looking at ourselves according to the natural. But according to 2 Corinthians 5:17, we aren’t who we are in the flesh; we are a brand-new creation in Christ.

When we renew our minds to who we are in Christ, it will put a boldness in our actions, boldness in our speaking, boldness in how we live our lives.

When the accuser (satan) comes against us with guilt and condemnation, rather than agreeing with his accusations, we rise up and declare, “I have been made the righteousness of God in Christ!”

The believer must know who they are in Christ in order to walk out the plan and gift of God. We have an adversary who aims to accuse us day and night; without a sure foundation of believing who we are in Christ, we will fall prey to his schemes. We become inactive members in the Body of Christ. But! When we meditate and choose to agree with what God has said about us, and purpose in our hearts that we are His ambassadors on the earth, when the devil comes to accuse us in our thoughts and feelings, we know that our true identity is found in Jesus!

You are a wonderful work of God’s grace! (Ephesians 2:10) Don’t diminish it! Glorify who you are in Christ! It brings God great pleasure when He sees His children living in agreement with what He has already made them to be.
