God’s Greatest Work!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

Oh, the depth and richness of what Jesus accomplished through the cross and His resurrection! Jesus not only became the final sacrifice for our sins, but He also rose as the “firstborn from the dead”—a new creation and the pattern for our own new birth. In fact, in the original Greek, the phrase “new creation” conveys that we are something entirely new—something that did not exist before!

What God did in Jesus on our behalf is His greatest work! When we are born again in Him, our born-again spirit is a new creation, just like Jesus. His righteousness is our righteousness, His holiness is our holiness, and His sufficiency is our sufficiency.

So often, people think they are still trying to become holy or righteous. They look at their behaviour and actions and think, “I am so far from looking like Jesus. I’ll never be good enough.”

Believing that being a new creation is about trying to “become like Him” means that we are viewing ourselves according to the natural realm. But according to 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are not defined by who we are in the flesh; we are brand-new creations in Christ.

When we renew our minds to the truth of who we are in Christ, it produces boldness in our actions, our words and the way we live. If the accuser, Satan, comes against us with guilt and condemnation, rather than agreeing with his accusations, we can rise up and declare, “I have been made the righteousness of God in Christ!”

Believers must know who they are in Christ in order to walk fully in the plans and gifts of God. We are Jesus’ ambassadors on earth—new creations in Christ. Our true identity is found in Jesus! Now that we have become new creations in Christ, we do what Jesus did. We leave behind our sinful ways and walk in righteousness, loving and blessing people!

You are a wonderful work of God’s grace! (Ephesians 2:10) Don’t diminish it! Honour who you are in Christ. It brings God great pleasure when He sees His children living in agreement with what He has already made them to be.
