Practice These Things
Philippians 4:9 AMPC “Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.”
Practice is required in order for us to become skilled at something. Just like the best athletes in the world have practiced the basic fundamentals of their sport in order to become the best in their area, as believers, we are to practice thinking like God.
We can have peace just like God has peace because He has given us His peace, and peace is a fruit of the Born Again spirit.
In Philippians 4, the apostle Paul gives us a list of true and right things to think about. He says in verse eight:
“For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].”
We can choose what we want to think about, the more practice training and renewing our minds to think in line with God’s Word, the easier and more skilful we are at living in the peace that God has given us.
I encourage you this week to on purpose, think about what you are thinking about. Check if the thoughts that you are allowing yourself to think line up with the list that the Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul said.
Is it true? Is it worthy of reverence? Is it a pure thought? Is it lovely or gracious? If not, then we cast those negative thoughts down, and replace them with the truth of God’s Word and what He has said about you and your situation.
Practice this! And the peace of God will be with you.
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
Chloe
