Alive unto God
Galatians 2:19-20, “For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
When Jesus was on the earth, He showed us the heart of the Father. He is the exact representation of the Father’s nature. When He came, He came full of grace and truth. Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world, He came to show us the kindness and goodness of the Father because it is the kindness of God that leads people to repentance. (Romans 2:4)
Everything Jesus did was full of grace and it drew people to Him. Even those who were considered the “worst” sinners knew that they could come to Jesus and receive forgiveness and the restoration they were so desperately looking for. They were looking for life, and they knew that Jesus had what they needed because He was full of grace and truth.
Even after experiencing the grace of God in our personal lives, we can so easily forget that we weren’t saved so we could perform better or live more holy, that kind of thinking comes from a works-based mentality where we think that we have to act better to become more righteous. The truth is that we cannot become any more righteous or any more holy than we are right now because Jesus paid the price, and He did the work in us. We simply have to agree with what He says about us.
The law was given to the nation of Israel to show them that they needed a Saviour. The law could never make them holy or right before God. The law is holy for its intended purpose, and that purpose is to lead us to Jesus. Praise God that the law showed us that we needed a Saviour and God, in His mercy and faithfulness gave us Jesus.
When Paul says in Galatians 2:19, that he “through the law, died to the law”, he was telling us that through the law, he discovered his need for a Saviour, and because of the grace of God, he has a Saviour and as a result, is now dead to the law so that he can live for God.
That’s what we need to understand too! The purpose of the law was to bring us to Christ, and for that, we can always be grateful. But we are no longer under the law, instead, we are under grace. We have a new nature inside of us. We simply need to renew our minds to understand who Jesus has made us to be. What a wonderful work of grace we are!
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
Chloe
