Rest on Grace

Romans 4:16, “That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all…”

The wonderful truth of the Gospel is that Jesus has paid the price for our sin. Often we don’t understand the magnitude and the depths of what this truth means, which is why righteousness is revealed by faith. As we grow in our understanding in what Jesus has done for us, we begin to grow in boldness, knowing who we are in Christ.

In Romans chapter four, Paul made it clear that circumcision was never meant to be the standard of righteousness. Abraham was circumcised as a sign of the covenant that God had made with him. However, over time, the Jews made circumcision the standard and evidence of righteousness. Paul was addressing this issue and said that righteousness isn’t a result of what we can do, it is not because of our works, it has nothing to do with circumcision; righteousness is a gift received by faith.

“That is why it depends on faith…” Righteousness depends on faith in what Jesus has done. Righteousness is available to anyone who simply believes. This good news gets even better!

Righteousness depends on faith in order that the promise may rest on grace!

Praise God! That means that righteousness and everything that belongs to us as a result of righteousness does not rest on our deserving it; the promise of God rests on His grace! His grace is eternal, and it is final!

We can rest our faith on His grace because we know that what Jesus did was enough. It is finished. We simply believe that when God calls us justified, we agree with Him and we call ourselves justified.

Let’s rest on His grace and rejoice in the truth that we are justified.

Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.

Blessings,

Chloe
