Wise in what is Good
Romans 16:17, 19-20 “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offences, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”
The Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, warned us that in the last days, people will no longer endure sound doctrine. 2 Timothy 4:3 says, "For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their owndesires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear."
Paul finishes his letter to the church in Rome warning the believers to note those who cause divisions and bring offences. He knew that there would be people who would try to come in and cause division through false doctrine.
This warning is just as important for us to heed as it was for the church in Rome.
Every Christian needs to know for themselves what God's Word says. This is how we will not fall prey to wrong doctrine and false teaching.
We don't have to be afraid of being deceived by wrong teaching because we have an unction from the Holy One and we know all things. (1 John 2:20)
As we listen to the teaching of God's Word and spend time reading the Bible for ourselves, we can ask the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, to help us discern what is true and what is not true.
If someone is causing division and bringing strife amongst the people, you can be certain that the source behind that conversation is of the evil one. (James 3:16) That's why Paul commands the church to avoid them.
Thank God for the help of the precious Holy Spirit! God is so faithful to make sure that we hear and recongnise the truth, we simply have to be willing to hear it. I encourage you today to ask the Holy Spirit to help you to know what is of God and what is not, to discern between what is good and what is evil. He will help you!
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
Chloe
