God’s Word is His Will

Hebrews 4:1-3 “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest…”

God’s Word reveals His will for our lives. When we read the Word of God, we begin to understand His plan and will for His children. His Word is full of exceedingly great and precious promises, promises that cause us to overcome problems and enable us to reign in life. What a wonderful gift God has given us through His Word.

However, just because God has said it doesn’t mean that it automatically comes to pass in our lives; we have a part to play too. This is where our faith comes in. What we believe about what God has said is important.

In Numbers chapter thirteen, we read the account of the nation of Israel spying out the land that God promised them. It was God’s will for them to go and take possession of the land; it belonged to them because God said so. When Moses sent spies into the land to check it out  to see what kind of land it was, the ten out of the twelve spies came back with what the Bible says was “an evil report”. They came back saying that it was definitely a beautiful land, but there were giants in that land, giants that would destroy them. Rather than agreeing with what God said about them and the promised land, they looked at the giants and looked at their inability and gave an evil report of unbelief. Joshua and Caleb were the only two who came back with God’s Word still in their mouth. Joshua and Caleb were the only two out of that entire nation who received what God had promised them.

We can see from this example how essential our faith in what God has said is.

In Hebrews 4, the writer says that the Gospel was preached to us just like it was preached to the nation of Israel. We have heard the Gospel too! What is our response to what we have heard? Do we believe it? Do we hold onto what God has said regardless of what is happening around us? Do we choose to mix faith with what we heard? Do we exalt God’s Word above our circumstances and feelings?

We can learn from their mistakes and not respond like the ten spies who did not mix faith with what God said. Instead, we are those who continue to hear what God has said, believe what God has said, and hold onto what God has said. His Word is the anchor and foundation of our lives because we understand the importance of His Word and our response of faith, so that the outcome of our lives lines up with what God has said.

Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.

Blessings,

Chloe
