Defined by Him
Numbers 14:8-9, “If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
There is a saying that goes, “If you think you're defeated, or if you think you will win, you're correct either way.”
This is a very true statement. The way we view ourselves will determine the outcome of our lives.
We can define ourselves by our past, our failures, other people’s opinions, our feelings, our actions, our successes, etc. However, as Christians, our identity is not found in ourselves or other people’s opinions; we are who God says we are.
When we know and believe what God says about us, it becomes the foundation of our faith. We don’t waver or hesitate to believe God because we know how He sees us and what He has qualified us for.
What we believe about what God has said about us is important because it will determine the outcome of our lives.
In the account of the twelve spies who were sent to spy out the land, we read about ten spies who rejected what God said about them and two spies, Joshua and Caleb, who chose to believe what God said about them.
It’s important for us to remember the past experiences of these spies. They were the ones who spent years as slaves in Egypt. They would live under constant ridicule, abuse, and belittling. If you have ever been in a situation like that, you know how easily it can be to let those words define you. That’s what happened to these ten spies when they entered the promised land, their past experiencs become their identity, and they saw themselves as grasshoppers.
However, when Joshua and Caleb saw the giants in the land, they said, “Let us go and get it!” Joshua and Caleb did not let their past experiences become their identity. They chose to believe what God said about them.
They both saw the same thing, but because of what they let define them, they had different outcomes. What we believe about what God has said about us is important.
What about you? How do you see yourself?
We can have faith for God’s promises because we are fully convinced that He has qualified us to partake of His promises! Praise God!
Our past does not disqualify us.
Our failures do not disqualify us.
What others have said about us does not disqualify us.
We can have faith to partake because He qualified us and we believe what He has said!
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
Chloe
