Made Sufficient

2 Corinthians 3:5-6 AMPC

“Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God. [It is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient] as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ], not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit; for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive.”

Our experience of God's grace is not just a one-time event.

Receiving Jesus as our Lord and Saviour was our first experience of the beautiful grace of God, and each day onwards, we are called to live in His grace and by His grace.

The Holy Spirit, through Paul, says, “not that we are sufficient of ourselves but our sufficiency is from God who has made us sufficient…”

We have been made sufficient by God! We are sufficient because of Jesus’ finished work.

Not going to be sufficient or trying to be more sufficient, we are sufficient because our sufficiency is from God who made us sufficient.

As we renew our minds to who we really are in Christ, it will change the way we live and act.

Many believers get caught in the trap of trying to change their behaviour to “be more godly”.

But that is a lifestyle of condemnation and guilt. It’s mixing law with grace, and that will never work. It results in a life of frustration and insecurity.

It’s like living with a veil over our eyes, never really understanding what Jesus did for us and in us.

Mixing law and grace puts a veil over our lives. It takes our eyes off what God has done for us in Jesus and shifts our focus to our own efforts.

But when we focus on Jesus, choose to believe what He says about us, and fix our attention on the fact that we have been made sufficient in Him, it will change our behaviour to match who we know ourselves to be.

This is what the work of grace does in us. It’s a life of freedom, victory and joy!

Thank You, Jesus, for His goodness and His work in us!

You are sufficient and can do whatever you need to do for His glory!
