Made Sufficient

2 Corinthians 3:5-6 AMPC

“Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God. [It is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient] as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ], not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit; for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive.”

Our experience of God’s grace isn’t just a one-time event. Receiving Jesus as our Lord and Saviour was the beginning. Now, each day, we are called to live in His grace and by His grace.

Paul wrote: “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves… but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient.” —2 Corinthians 3:5–6

God has already made us sufficient through the finished work of Jesus. We aren’t trying to become sufficient—our sufficiency comes from Him. As we renew our minds to who we are in Christ, the way we live begins to change.

Many believers fall into the trap of believing their behaviour makes then “ more godly”. But focusing on our own efforts as a means of righteousness leads to condemnation, frustration and insecurity. It mixes law with grace and takes our eyes off what Jesus has done for us and in us. Our behaviour should flow from who we are, not define who we are.

Real change comes as we focus on Jesus, believe what He says about us and live from who He has already made us to be. This is the work of grace within us—a life of freedom, victory and joy!

Thank You, Jesus, for Your goodness and Your work in us. You are sufficient in Him, and you can do whatever He calls you to do for His glory.
