What Does the Bible Say About Healing?

 

Before we pray for anything in faith, we need to know God's will. To know God's will, we need to find out what He says in His Word!

1. God created mankind without sickness. (Genesis 1:31)

2. There will be no sickness in Heaven. (Revelation 21:4)

3. Jesus prayed: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

4. Sickness is part of the ‘curse’ of the Law. God told us to 'choose life', to choose the blessings. (Deuteronomy 28:20-68)

5. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become the curse on our behalf. (Galatians 3:13)

6. God calls himself, 'The Lord Who Heals You’. His name is His revealed nature. (Exodus 15:26)

7. God’s OT Covenant was one of healing. He committed himself by blood covenant to provide healing for his children. (Exodus 15:26, 23:25-26)

8. The snake that was raised on a pole in the wilderness and all were healed that came to it, was a type of Christ. Christ bore the consequences of sin on our behalf. (Numbers 21:9, John 3:14-15)

9. The Psalmist wrote ‘He heals ALL my diseases’ (Psalm 103:3)

10. We are promised that NO pestilence will enter our dwelling. (Psalm 91)

11. The Psalmist wrote; ‘He sends His Word and heals them.’ (Psalm107:20)

12. The Sun of Righteousness has healing in His wings! (Malachi 4:2)

13. God’s promised in Jeremiah was that he would restore health and heal. (Jeremiah 30:17)

14. God’s Word is health to all our flesh. (Proverbs 4:20-22)

15. Healing is included in Christ’s atonement for sin (Isaiah 53). If forgiveness is for everyone, so is healing.

16. Sickness was included in the curse of sin that Jesus bore on the cross. Healing in Christ is provided on the same basis as forgiveness. (Isaiah 53)

17. The Gospels confirmed Jesus’ fulfilling of Isaiah 53, by including healing as part of His redemptive work. (Matthew 8:16-17)

18. Jesus healed all who came to him. (Matthew 8:16, 12:15 14:14, 19:2, 21:14; Mark 3:10; Luke 4:40, 6:19. 5:17, 9:1, 9:11 etc)

19. There is no record of Jesus not healing anyone who came to him.

20. Jesus said he always does the Father’s will. Jesus healed, so it must be the Father’s will to heal. (John 6:38)

21. The only reason Jesus could not heal was because of what the individuals believed, not because He didn't want people healed. (Mark 6:5)

22. When Jesus was specifically asked if it was his will to heal he said “yes”. (Matthew 8:20)

23. The Bible word for "healed" is the same as the Bible word for "saved" - 'sozo'. For early Christians, the two words were used interchangeably. If you had one, you got the other!

24. When the disciples could not heal someone, it was still God’s will to heal them. Not receiving healing was not a sign of God's will. (Matthew 17:16)

25. Sickness is identified as a work of Satan. (Luke 13:16, Acts 10:38)

26. Jesus healed ALL who were oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38)

27. The thief kills, steals and destroys, Jesus came to give us life abundantly. (John 10:10)

28. The commissioning of Jesus included God’s revealed will to heal. (Luke 4)

29. The ministry of healing was given to the seventy. The number 70 represents everyone. All Christians are ministers of healing. (Luke 10)

30. Jesus never commissioned the Gospel to be preached without healing.

31. Jesus promised the works he did, his disciples would do and greater. Healing was considered one of the 'lesser' works, ministry 1.01. (John 14:12)

32. The early church believed that Christians had authority from Jesus to heal all sickness as part of the great commission. (Mark 16:18)

33. Peter and John believed that authority to heal was given to them. (Acts 3:6)

34. Paul believed he had authority to heal. (Acts 9:36-41, 16:16-34)

35. Peter taught healing as being part of Christ’s accomplished atonement for our sin. (1 Peter 2:24)

36. John believed it was God’s will for us to be in health. (3 John 1:2)

37. James taught the prayer of faith will heal the sick. (James 5:15)

38. When people don’t understand the power of healing provided by Christ's sacrifice, especially when expressed through communion, they miss out on the health benefits. (1 Corinthians 1:27-30)

39. Human tradition, including wrong teaching about healing, nullifies the effect of God’s Word. (Mark 7:13)

40. Unbelief nullifies the power of God to heal. (Matthew 14:58)

41. Lack of knowledge of God’s Word causes people to perish. (Hosea 4:6)

42. Natural knowledge and human experience show us that good parents want their children healthy. If human parents want their children healthy, how much more our heavenly father. (Matthew 7:9)

43. Healing is the children’s bread; a basic promise and right of every child of God. (Matthew 15:22-29)

44. The glory of God is revealed through healing. (John 11)

45. God’s Word is His will. He doesn't change His mind. (Number 23:19)

46. Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever. If it was his will to heal all then, it’s his will now. (Hebrews 13:8)

47. All the promises of God (including healing) are answered ‘yes’ in Christ Jesus. (1 Corinthians 1:20)

48. When we agree that the promises of God are for us, including for healing, it is to God’s glory. Agreeing with God for His promises is agreeing with His will for us. (1 Corinthians 1:20)

49. God doesn't change his mind. (Numbers 23:19)

50. God watches over His Word to perform it. He looks out for people who are willing to believe Him! (Jeremiah 1:12)
